IN THE ALMOST: MEMORYS NOT YET BORN

In the almost cover

IN THE ALMOST

In the Almost takes place in a world before things have fully become themselves. Light has not yet become day, rivers have not learned to flow, mountains are still dreaming of gravity. Even time exists only as breath, not yet as something that can be counted.

The song imagines existence not as a sequence of beginnings and endings, but as a continuous act of remembering. What appears to us as new may already carry the memory of what it is about to become. A shadow somehow knows the light. A life is already travelling before it has a name. Tomorrow folds into yesterday as if the distinction between them were only temporary.

At the centre of the song is the idea of the almost: that strange territory between absence and presence, between what has disappeared and what has not yet arrived. It is also where love exists. Love has already happened before the heart fully understands it; loss may begin before anything has actually been lost.

The final room brings this cosmic movement back to something intimate. The dream ends, but the room remains. Someone seems to have passed through the silence before the narrator awoke. And in the final glance between two people, time briefly loses its authority:

As though the world
Had never learned
To let us go.

The song leaves open whether this is memory, dream, love, death, or something outside time altogether. Perhaps the almost is precisely the place where those distinctions no longer matter.

IN THE ALMOST

Before the light remembered
How to become the day,
I wandered through a room
That had no walls to keep.
An empty chair was waiting
For someone not yet gone.
Nothing had a name.
Everything already knew.

A voice without a speaker
Called me by no word.
Still…
I understood.

In the almost.
In the not yet.
Every ending
Learning how to begin.
Every shadow
Borrowing its light.
Everything becoming
Something it remembered.

The rivers chose their silence
Before they learned to flow.
Mountains dreamed of gravity
Before they became stone.
A window faced a landscape
No sky had ever filled.
Time was only breathing,
Never counting anything.
Even the stars
Seemed to remember home.

I watched tomorrow
Fold itself
Into yesterday.
No one seemed surprised.
Love had already passed.
Our hearts
Were only
Catching up.

In the almost.
In the not yet.
Every answer
Hidden in the first breath.
Every life
Already travelling
Before it found a name.
We call it beginning.
The universe
Calls it remembering.

When I awoke,
The room remained.
But someone had crossed the silence before me.
You looked at me…
As though the world
Had never learned
To let us go..
